Sandia Peak Tramway

The Sandia Peak Tramway (you can just call it the tram) is one of Albuquerque’s signature attractions and a great way to see the Sandia Mountains without hiking a mountain. The tram carries you from the northeast edge of Albuquerque to the crest of the Sandias, climbing nearly 4,000 feet in about 15 minutes. As the tram rises above the foothills, you get wide views over Albuquerque and on clear days, much of central New Mexico. The tram also passes over steep canyons and rock formations giving you plenty to see during the ride.

At the top, you will find cooler temperatures, access to short walks and longer hiking trails, and some of the best sunset views in the state. This is also where TEN 3 Restaurant sits, offering both casual and fine dining at more than 10,000 feet above sea level. It’s a unique setting but TEN 3 can get crowded and it’s pricey (it’s the only restaurant on the mountain after all).

The tram is especially good for visitors who want the Sandia views without committing to a major hike like La Luz. Weather can change quickly at the top, so bring a jacket even if it is warm in Albuquerque.
