The TWA Flight 260 crash site is an unusual hike in the Sandia Mountains. In 1955, a TWA airliner struck the west face of the Sandias shortly after taking off from Albuquerque, killing everyone on board. Today, pieces of wreckage can still be seen scattered along the mountainside near the trail. It is not a polished memorial or casual roadside stop, but it’s an interesting site to visit and beautiful hike through the Sandias. It’s accessible from the Domingo Baca trailhead at 35.165864, -106.472886. Be prepared for a strenuous hike, 7 miles round trip.
