Jemez Hot Springs

Jemez Springs has a rich history of geothermal activity, with naturally hot mineral waters that have been enjoyed by locals and visitors for generations.

The springs exist because the Jemez Mountains are part of an ancient volcanic region centered around the Valles Caldera. Heat remaining beneath the area warms groundwater as it moves through cracks in the volcanic rock before returning to the surface as hot springs.

Jemez Hot Springs

While there are many natural hot springs in the Jemez Mountains, you can enjoy a relaxing soak within the town of Jemez Springs at Jemez Hot Springs. Formerly known as Giggling Springs, the property has four pools filled with naturally heated geothermal water, with views of the surrounding red-rock canyon. You can soak by the hour or stay in one of the property’s cabins for a longer visit although it can be pricey.

Jemez Bath House

There is also a cheaper option for soaking at the Jemez Bath House, which offers a more budget-friendly experience compared to Jemez Hot Springs. There are no communal pools, the facility instead offers private soaking rooms and a more spa like experience. Also, the tubs are not dirty, there is real minerals in the water that build up over time, creating a natural coating!

Between the outdoor pools at Jemez Hot Springs and the private tubs at the Bath House, Jemez Springs is one of the easiest places in New Mexico to enjoy geothermal waters!
