Battleship Rock

Battleship Rock is a towering volcanic rock formation in the Jemez Mountains, located a few miles north of Jemez Springs along NM-4.

Rising roughly 200 feet above the canyon, the formation gets its name from its long, jagged shape, which resembles the bow of a battleship. It was formed by volcanic activity in the Jemez Mountains more than five million years ago.

Visiting Battleship Rock

Battleship Rock is more than just a roadside viewpoint. At its base, the East Fork of the Jemez River and the San Antonio River come together, creating a shady recreation area with picnic tables, fishing, and access to hiking trails.

The East Fork Trail begins nearby and follows the river into the mountains. You can also use the trail to reach McCauley Warm Springs or Jemez Falls, making Battleship Rock a good starting point for a longer hike.
